Unichamp Lao Co launches lime processing facility in Laos

Unichamp Lao Co., Ltd. (“Unichamp Lao”) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday to launch the construction of a new fully integrated modern lime manufacturing facility in Khammuan province.

Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad attends the groundbreaking ceremony.

The modern manufacturing facility, which is to be located in Noy village, Xebangfay district, will conform to accepted international environmental standards onsite, making it the first of its kind in the country.

Unichamp Lao is a joint venture company between Unichamp Mineral Sdn Bhd (“Unichamp”), a leading major lime producer in the region, and PK Lime Company Ltd (“PK Lime”), a company incorporated in the Lao PDR.The company received its concession certificate from the Investment Promotion Department of the Ministry of Planning and Investment in December 2013 to develop a limestone quarry and build and operate a lime processing facility for the production and supply of industrial lime and lime related
products in the Lao PDR. The project will be undertaken in two phases, requiring a total investment of approximately US$28 million. Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed by the 2nd quarter of 2015, which will create new job opportunities and transfer of technology, skills and knowhow to the local community, which is the principle policy which Unichamp observes in all its overseas investments.

Once operational, the lime manufacturing facility will produce quicklime, hydrated lime, milk of lime and calcium carbonate powder to meet the increasing demand of the growing local industries for lime products, therefore substituting the current imports with good quality lime products made from natural material readily available locally.
Unichamp Lao will supply lime products to local businesses that utilise lime for environmental treatment, water treatment, sugar refining, agriculture and steel production.
Unichamp has a regional presence and operations in Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia and the Lao PDR.

Unichamp works closely with its business partners who are mainly in the mining, nonferrous minerals, chemical, iron and steel, oil and gas and water treatment industries to achieve long-term mutual benefits. The management of Unichamp Lao is grateful for the support of the government of Laos to make this project a success, and is committed to being part of the community for the long term.
